THE THREE S.L.I.M.M.S.® PROCEDURES
S.L.I.M.M.S. Metabolic Procedure
“Surgically Limit Intake, Manage Metabolic Syndromes.”
Achieving the Power of Combined. The gastric sleeve and gastric bypass combined into one operation.
After bariatric surgery, long-term success is dependent on people using the leverage of their procedure to change their eating habits. The gastric bypass results in satisfaction with smaller meals (called "early satiety"), but the period of diminished appetite (dubbed the “Honeymoon Period”) lasts only 4-6 months . The sleeve gastrectomy reduces the hunger hormone Ghrelin permanently, but meal size increases significantly after one year.
Combining the two procedures makes early satiety and decreased appetite more permanent.
S.L.I.M.M.S. Procedure
“Surgically Limit Intake, Make Me Sexy!”
Dr. Quebbemann slightly modified the Magenstrasse and Mill operation, which was designed for morbid obesity, into a procedure that is ideal for people wanting to lose weight for cosmetic and lifestyle improvement.
People that are not severely obese still find permanent weight loss very difficult. And many people would prefer not to depend on weight-loss drugs for life in order to control their weight. A procedure that does not involve malabsorption, does not involve removing a large portion of their stomach, is reversible, and can provide permanent weight loss has been needed.
This is that procedure.
S.L.I.M.M.S. Revision for Gastric Bypass
Based on the S.L.I.M.M.S. Metabolic Procedure
Patients that regain weight after Gastric bypass have historically been resistant to improved success.
Correction of the gastric pouch and repair of Gastro-jejunal stoma dilation (stretched out connection between stomach and intestine) does not change appetite and has variable results in terms of improved weight control. Adding a longer intestinal bypass increases risk of severe malabsorption with often times minimal improvement in weight control.
My solution, to decrease ghrelin by adding the "sleeve" gastrectomy , has resulted in many patients reporting a decrease in appetite, a return of early satiety, and regain of successful weight control.
